- BOSTON HISTORY AND INNOVATION COLLABORATIVE, Content for Innovation Gallery and other galleries
Founded in 1997, the Boston History & Innovation Collaborative is a not-for-profit alliance that works to sustain Greater Boston's 400-year tradition of innovation. The Collaborative began as an effort to bring together leaders from the tourism, business, government, and academic sectors to make the full sweep of Boston's history fun and fascinating to the public, and that could aid the region's economy. Since 2003, its work has focused on the question of why Boston became and has remained a global center of innovation for four centuries. Its research, consulting, and action plans are overseen by a powerful and visionary group of leaders, the Boston 5th Century Trustees. The Trustees include a wide selection of cultural, academic, business and civic leaders. The Collaborative developed the Literary Trail of Greater Boston, BostonFamilyHistory.net, Boston by Sea, and Innovation Odyssey tours, and developed the Maritime History Museum at Battery Wharf (which opened in spring 2009). In 2008, the Boston Museum and the Boston History & Innovation Collaborative announced an agreement to merge their organizations in 2009.
